Be Good, Little Migrants
The poem 'Be Good, Little Migrants' by Uyen Loewald is a warning to new arrivals. The author expresses her experience as a migrant using the voice of Australian society as she sees it. What did you feel when you read the poem? Were you angry? Confused? Dumbfounded?
Post your draft response to the task 'Open letter to new arrivals' here. You must read your classmates' posts and offer support, encouragement and suggestions. This exercise will help you to develop your final written letter.

Identity and Belonging
Recently we have read the story 'Chinese Lessons', in which a young woman describes her changing feelings about her cultural background.
We have also watched the film 'Australia', in which a young half-caste boy says 'I belong no one. I belong nowhere'.
Where do you belong? Where do you feel most comfortable? Is it possible to belong to more than one place and culture?
