My father migrated to Australia from the US in 1966. According to him, it was a very different place then, open, friendly and quiet.I don't know how it would feel to migrate here in 2010, or from a non-English speaking country. I can relate my own experience however, as a temporary migrant to a non-English speaking country. As an expatriate Australian in Taiwan, I experienced the full gamut of emotions and frustrations, from excitement to despair. I found the local people to be very friendly and interested in me, but could not always fully undertsand their point of view on life, the world, their own country.
